How to Prepare Your Church for a New Steeple
When your church is ready to purchase a fiberglass steeple there are many pieces of information that you will need to have on hand when ordering.
The most important piece of information you will need to know is the size of the steeple you want. You need to make sure the steeple is not too big or too small for your church for appearance sake and for stability. You want to make sure the height of the steeple is proportionate to the size of your building.
Next you will need to know the roof pitch. This is important because the manufacturer will cut the pitch angles at the factory and if they are not correct the steeple will not sit properly on your roof. You also need to consider and extras you might want such as lightning protection, louvers, K Glass (for the windows if applicable) or a cross at the top of the steeple. Not every size will offer you all of these options so check with your salesperson to make sure the options you want are available on your steeple.
If you live in an area where high winds are normal you will want to check with your insurance company to make sure they will insure the steeple if damaged due to the wind and also ask what wind speed the steeple is tested for. You don’t want any surprised when it comes safety and structural integrity. Some manufacturers will offer installation services if your church is located within a certain distance from their facility. There is usually a charge for this service so you will want to check locally to see any contractors are available and priced appropriately to do the work.
If you are hiring someone to do the installation you will also need to rent and/or hire a crane and crane operator to get the steeple up on the roof for you. It is very important to make sure the contractor is aware of the scope of the job so you are hiring the best qualified person.
